Stook 10 Mile

The 2024 Stook 10Mile Road Race will be held at 11:30am on Sunday the 3rd March 2024 in the village of Dungarvan, Gowran, Co. Kilkenny.

Stook 10 Mile is hosted by Gowran AC to raise funds for their juvenile squads.

Since its inaugural outing in 2012, the race has earned a reputation as a tough but enjoyable mid-winter road race that offers a friendly and welcoming community atmosphere. Stook attracts runners with a wide range of abilities. We are very popular with runners from running clubs, bootcamps, triathlon clubs – with various clubs in Kilkenny, Carlow, Wexford, Waterford, Laois, Tipperary, Cork, Kildare, Dublin, Wicklow and Meath.

Since set up we have received great feedback for both the organisation and the route and we hope to further build on this reputation every year.

Fantastic race, great support, savage course, perfect weather and some feed at the end. Highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t been.

Stook 10 Mile Route

The race is set over an challenging but enjoyable 10-mile route, so you will enjoy running in some of Kilkenny’s most beautiful scenery. The route winds across gentle valleys and up country roads before emerging at the crest of Stook Hill. From here you will have stunning views down to the finish, but first you’ll get to experience Ireland’s fastest timed downhill mile – The Stook Flying Mile. With timing mats at either end everyone receives a personal split for that single mile. Will you be the first to break 4 minutes? After the Stook flying mile there is more downhill, followed by about 200m of a pull and then a quick downhill finish.

A club quality race

In addition to the accurate course (jones counter measured), chip timing, online results and water stations you’d expect from a club organised race there will be individual, category and team prizes on offer. Entry fee is €30.00 online. The race starts from Dungarvan Church, 3 miles south of Gowran village, which is 15 minutes drive from J7 on the M9 motorway.
